Youngest Media setting up a HouseShare with a difference for BBC3

Youngest Media has secured its first BBC3 series commission with HouseShare (6 x 20’). In this docu-reality series, six young people are being given an opportunity to fulfill their ambition of moving to London and making a living in the capital. Whatever their personal reason to come to London, they have one thing in common – they wouldn’t be able to make the move on their own.

In common with major cities around the world, high rents, record levels of debt, a housing crisis and excessive living costs make it increasingly difficult to be able to afford to live in London. So while they try and begin their new life in London, we will challenge them to try a new way of managing the load… not only sharing a roof, but also sharing ALL the money they earn!

With a communal household account for every purchase, from groceries to nights out, they’ll have to trust each other not to blow the cash. Will sharing their earnings make their money go further or will different spending habits split the group? And at the end of the 6 weeks, will the housemates decide to carry on house sharing together and pursuing their chosen careers in London or will they realise the city isn’t for them and go back home?

David Flynn Co Founder of Youngest said “Building on Youngest’s reputation for delivering compelling formats across TV and digital video, we’re thrilled to be making HouseShare for BBC3. Moving into a shared house in a new city with dreams and aspirations is a rite of passage for young people all over the world. Sharing everything they earn could allow the housemates to build a new life in London if they can resist the urge to spend.”

House Share is a Youngest Media 6 x 20 production for BBC Three. It was commissioned by Fiona Campbell, Controller BBC Three and Nasfim Haque, Commissioning Editor, BBC Three. The Commissioning Editor for the BBC is Carl Callam. The Executive Producers are David Flynn, Shaun Parry and Michelle Woods for Youngest Media and the Series Editor is Laura Capaldi.
